As we step into November, the holiday season is upon us, bringing with it the annual wave of predictions for 2025. I recently came across Expedia’s latest travel trends report here, and while some of the insights may not seem directly related to our usual discussions, there are certainly trends we can embrace and make our own.
Detour Destinations are the first trend worth highlighting. These are those hidden gems just a short drive away from the more popular, crowded spots. This is exactly what we love to do! We visit a bustling city for the must-see attractions and then venture out to uncover quirky, pop culture-related stops that make our trips memorable.
Next up is the concept of Goods Getaway. This was a new term for me, but it perfectly describes something we often do—vacationing with an extra suitcase space specifically to bring home local specialties. I adore discovering regional foods, though I have to admit, sometimes those goodies don’t quite make it back home!
Then we have JOMO, or the Joy of Missing Out. Unlike FOMO, this trend celebrates renting a private house, often in scenic locations like the beach or mountains, for a serene retreat. We truly embrace JOMO, as we tend to wander off the beaten path, finding joy in the quieter, less-traveled destinations.
Lastly, there’s Set-Jetting, which aligns perfectly with our mission. This trend involves visiting filming locations from movies and TV shows. While the report mentions exotic spots, we know that the U.S. is filled with incredible filming locations worth exploring.
